WordCamp Asia 2024 Slides & Summary: Insights from WordPress Contribution

Earlier this month, I gave a talk about a topic I am passionate about: WordPress open source contribution, at WordCamp Asia 2024 in Taipei.

You can find the Google Slides version of the presentation here.

Sustaining Your Journey & Collaborating

Throughout most of my adult life, I was deeply involved in this community. My career, friendships, and personal development were closely linked with its values – and I am grateful for that.

Becoming involved in open source contribution turned out to be one of the most fortunate accidents. I wanted to explain how anyone can begin their journey, learn valuablue skills, and make meaningful contribution to projects that matter to them.

My presentation highlights the importance of the following essentials:

  • Resources
  • A clear direction
  • Collaboration
  • Strategies to avoid burnout

We are in a marathon, not a sprint. Sustainable contribution over the years has led me to where I am. When I started my first contributions, I had no understanding of what open source was yet I sensed there was something special in this software and its community.

I hope my insights inspire you to focus on what’s important: the beauty of collaboration in creating something great together.
