Really enjoyed the Graphic Design in Japan 2012 show at Design Hub Tokyo Midtown yesterday.
The event was organized by the Japan Graphic Desingers Association (JAGDA) to commemorate the publication of design annual also called “Graphic Design in Japan 2012“.
It was a well-rounded exhibition to showcase modern Japanese design. There were mass-production and small-lot packages, book covers, products, interactive pieces, movies, and posters.
It’s been so long since I designed print posters. It reminded me of my college days when I studied (so-called) “graphic design” and had a job at an in-college design shop for student organizations. At that time I didn’t have as much appreciation and understanding for modern Japanese graphic design as I should have. Now I am all curious about Japanese aesthetics which is so unique.
Though some of the pieces are overly artsy for my taste considering the nature of exhibition (they sure were beautiful), this is a great opportunity to get a feel of the latest trend of Japanese graphic design. Highly recommended!
