Featured by Michigan in Pictures

One of my favorite photo blog, Michigan in Pictures picked my Flickr photo “Shiawassee River” on their June 9th post!
I took the picture in October 2005 short after we started kayaking. It was a really nice fall day and the trip on the river was beautiful.

Shiawassee River

I like Michigan in Pictures because it features photos from all around Michigan, taken by many different people – you get to take a peak at their lives and feel like traveling to places through their eyes. You also learn something new about Michigan on each post. It’s not just a photo blog, but they tell you the state’s history, culture, people, etc. that’s related to the picture.

Plus, the site is a good example of making a great use of wordpress.com blog too. 😀

Great Pictures on the Shiawassee River

A group of us have cleared 7 miles of the river between Holly and Fenton.
Every year we host a leisure paddle and race on this section.

Have a great summer and throw me an e-mail if you want to get out and paddle

Oh no.. I missed the leisure paddle this year! I will definitely let you know if I can make it next year. It sounds fun.
I would describe myself as ‘leisure kayaker’ so it will be perfect!
    Thanks for the info.

River Clean Up on August 11
Shiawassee River Cleanup on August 11th, 2007 in Holly, Michigan

The Shiawassee River needs your help!
The river is shallow in August and it is the best time to work.

On Saturday, August 11th, volunteers will meet at Waterworks Park,
opposite the Mill Pond on Broad Street in Holly, MI at 9:00 am.

Teams of people will depart from there to half a dozen river
access points to remove trash and clear the river .
Learn how to create new fish habitat and properly clean a river.

This work is supported by a mini-grant
from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality ( MDEQ )

Please call 248-634-3513 to get an assignment and
learn what tools to bring and clothing to wear.

    A light lunch will wrap-up the morning’s clean-up.
